1. Audi puts a price on the 2027 A6 Allroad — and the diesel copped an $11k hike

The fifth-gen A6 Allroad is finally confirmed for Australia, arriving in the first half of 2027, and for the first time it'll come with a plug-in hybrid. The e-hybrid quattro pairs a 2.0-litre turbo petrol with an electric motor for 270kW combined and a 20.7kWh usable battery, priced from $127,900 before on-roads. The 220kW V6 TDI diesel is still there, but it jumped $11,416 to $137,900. Audi calls this the most comprehensively equipped A6 Allroad yet — adaptive air suspension, rear-wheel steering, three screens and massaging seats all standard. So the plug-in now undercuts the diesel by ten grand. Wild times for wagon people.

2. GWM's Cannon Hi4-T is now Australia's cheapest plug-in hybrid ute

Been waiting for a hybrid ute that doesn't cost the earth? GWM's Cannon Hi4-T has landed in Aussie dealerships from $48,990 driveaway for private buyers (Lux grade) — or $47,990 for ABN holders under the extended launch offer, which runs to 30 November and gives you a choice of a $2,000 discount or a fuel card of the same value. The top-spec Ultra is $52,990 driveaway private. Claimed electric-only range is 115km (NEDC), and it keeps the 3,500kg braked towing capacity and a mechanical 4WD system that diesel ute buyers expect. GWM is now the only brand in Australia with two plug-in hybrid utes on sale, alongside the bigger Cannon Alpha Hi4-T. Test drives are on now.

3. Tesla drops its first Robotaxi safety report: 3.1 million driverless miles, zero injuries

Tesla published its first Robotaxi Safety Report on 21 October, claiming 3.1 million autonomous miles driven without a safety monitor between 22 January and 18 October 2026, with zero reported injuries or airbag deployments. On the same day, Tesla's AI chief Ashok Elluswamy posted "Robotaxi B-roll" on X — including two clips where the Tesla brakes as a Waymo and an Avride vehicle drift into its path. No contact, no drama, just a flex. Driverless service now runs in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Orlando, Tampa and Miami (the Bay Area still needs a safety driver), and the steering-wheel-free Cybercab is slated for Dallas in November. Waymo's still miles ahead on total volume — but Tesla's catching up in confidence.
